Whangarei's Pohutukawa Coast programme was originally set up in
1991 to help re-establish young Pohutukawa trees along our
coastline.
Since the project began over 44,000 trees have been distributed.
The New Zealand Oil Refining Company's association with Pohutukawa
Coast is an important part of our commitment to the local
environment. Our ongoing contribution helps support the cost of
growing the pohutukawa, kauri and shrubs to a good size for
planting out.
In 2011 Whangarei District Council and The New Zealand Refining
Company gave away 1400 young Pohutukawa and 200 Kauri trees, free
to keen growers. This included 200 Northland Hebe, 200 Flax and 200
Kowhai made available by Botanica Whangarei.
