Luke Davey
Technical Support Engineer
Joined NZRC: 2007
Luke works with two Technical Support engineers in the Engineering Business Unit and describes his work as diversified - ranging from technical advice, using boiler and pressure vessel codes to managing small unit shutdowns. Shutdowns involve planning, scope challenging and development, procuring materials, budgeting, scheduling and execution. Luke’s also been involved with managing small projects that include modifications to the plant. He also assists with challenging and managing work that arises during the larger shutdowns.
His Background
After school in Waihi, Luke attended the University of Auckland, graduating in Mechanical Engineering in 2006. The following year he joined the NZRC Graduate Programme as a Technical Support Engineer.
About the role
Luke’s role involves teamwork with many disciplines from across the refinery: operators, HSE staff, technicians, specialists and planners. The range of challenges Luke faces on some jobs is made enjoyable because everyone is working together towards the same goal.” Says Luke “It’s great to be able to put on some overalls and go into the plant and physically see what I am working on.”
Outside of Work
Luke loves the outdoors and the easy access to water sports and other activities that Northland provides. He often takes part in diving, sailing and fishing at the good beaches close to Whangarei. “Whangarei has many of the facilities that Auckland provides but without the congestion.”
